Vince Milano is a former U.S. infantryman, the author of The German Army Order of Battle 1918, and the coauthor of Normandiefront. Paul Botting and Vince Milano take part in displays and living history events relating to World War II. They both live in New Hampshire.

excellent photos from the average sold. The captions however, were a bit presumptions and repetitive at times, but it can be guesswork. excellent book imo

These are no images produced by or for the Propaganda Ministry in order to create an artificial image of the war for the benefit of the citizens, nor are they staged to hide imperfections in order to demoralize the enemy. This is the German Army as it really was, photographs taken by the average soldier in strikingly candid moments. Mr. Milano's vast collection of images, and intensely thorough research, opens up the experiences of another fighting force that most on the other side would not see, nor bother to imagine, whether in the heat of battle or the polished historical aftermath. He reminds us that they were men, not machines, and over the course of the war their own efforts captured the changing tides of the war as none others could.I look forward to reading more of Vince's books in the future! Unfortunately no background is provided on the source of the photos or the soldier responsible. Something that I think would have added considerable value. Essentially a collection of private photos from what appears to be various sources covering the advance into Russia and North Africa. There is no consistent theme throughout as the photos are intended to reflect the daily life of the Landser.Each photo is captioned although much of these feel like speculation when an original caption was not available.The motivation for this is certainly admirable but in light of everything else that has been published on the period, it's value is somewhat diminished and I'm not sure who it would specifically appeal to.The reference to 'rejoining society' was a major premise on which I purchased this book in the hope that it did include post war experiences and reflections, which is doesn't.
Excellent reference of pictures but they are so small that you can't see what is written in the description of each photo
