Had our twelve year-old use this for the family's second annual [8-day] road-trip: made him update it every day (at the end or the morning after -- can't go out until it's done.) He grudgingly started it but got into logging down his thoughts. I didn't require more than a mention of what places and special items there were done but it turned out that he elaborated those points that he thought were important (not that I agreed with him as to what was "important" but it was his journal after all.) At the end of the trip, had him do the summary sections and put the accumulated maps in the journal's back pocket. Interestingly, he gave the whole journal experience a "thumb's up" -- from my standpoint, he was more likely to remember the trip if he did something besides go along for the ride (NOTE: Our first annual [10-day] road-trip, to the northwestern US National Parks and Monuments, made use of the Ranger Badge tasks at each Park/Monument -- he clearly remembers what was done at each park and wishes to return to each.)

We bought two of these and had a lot of fun with them. The journal is set up for 14 days of a trip. There are sections for what to preparing (how will you travel, packing lists, a page for addresses); daily pages that are a nice combo of prompts and open space for drawing or writing; puzzle pages (word searches, crossword puzzles, mazes); and black pages. My 5 year old didn't use the whole thing at all, but she did do something in every part and the journal pages she filled out are precious. We loved the strap and the pocked in the back as well.

This is a good journal, but not enough just plain open space for my needs, and only 14 daily entry pages. It's really formatted for an international trip and best suited to that purpose. We're just going to California, and for 2.5 weeks, so it just doesn't work for our purposes. It's construction is high quality, would probably be durable even in a kid's hands, where I assume it would take at least a little abuse.

Great little book. I purchased it for my five year old so that he can document our upcoming trip to Pigeon Forge this summer. It is part of his Easter basket so he hasn't gotten a chance to check it out yet. This journal is age appropriate for children five and older. It is clearly written but not too simplistic that older children wouldn't enjoy it also. I look forward to reading it after our vacation is over to see how my child viewed our vacation through his eyes. Great memories!

Both my 10 & 8 year old loved the book. We took it on a recent 12-day vacation to Hawaii and the kids had fun recording their adventures in it. I wanted to limit the amount of time they spend on electronic devices and this journal was the perfect replacement. They spent quite a bit of time on the plane ride filling in the first few pages about our destination and then we arrived, they recorded their daily adventures and rated the days. There are several activity pages in the back of the book and they had fun doing those when they weren't writing notes. I would definitely get 2 copies of this book again for our next vacation. This book is intended to use for one vacation/trip and not multiple ones.

I really love the concept of this book. We travel a lot and this is a great way for my son to record his travels. This book is for one trip. I would have to purchase a book for each trip. I would like to somehow incorporate this idea for multiple trips in one journal.

This journal is just under 100 pages, so it's going to be good for even a longer trip (think weeks instead of days). Some kids are natural "expressers," some aren't. When I was young, I had no problem filling up page after page with random thoughts. But my son, who is only just beginning to really write, tends to be focused and brief. This journal can work for BOTH of those writing styles. There is plenty of free space to draw or write whatever you want, but there are lots of helpful writing prompts, too, that help keep ideas flowing.Plus, there are big, colorful graphics that not only keep the journal looking fun and interesting, but also take up space so that the journal doesn't feel or look so ominously blank. It's a nice balance. The journal is hardcover, but still light to carry. There is a little pocket in the back of the book for carrying papers or (very thin) souvenirs. Overall, the journal looks really nice and functions well.Peter Pauper Press gave me a free book to review.

Great prompts for young ones. My 6 year old enjoyed the prompts. They vary and aren't repetitive. It would work well for a 2 weeks + trip. It isn't good if you want something multiple trips.
