This is the companion book to Air, Earth, Fire & Water by Scott Cunningham. I highly recommend having both of these books for your library. I wish that I had purchased both of these books at the same time, instead of ordering them separately from Amazon! Hopefully, my loss will be your gain. Scott Cunningham's books are always incredibly well written, with readily useable information, and always a keeper for your library. I have found that all of his books can be easily read and understood by novices to the path, and also very useful to those of us who are well seasoned.
This book is a replacement for the original that I had in 1989 and only recently lost. Amazon advertises the book as having the original illustrations by Robin Wood, but there is absolutely NO illustration in this book AT ALL. The text is the same, but the illustrations are not there at all. Nothing. I am VERY disappointed but will keep the book for the text alone.
This book had a few interesting bits. It is a spell book and almost exclusively healing spells. I've also bought the second book in this short series, which is by far more recommended so we will see how that one stacks up. There doesn't seem to be as much Wiccan influence in this book as much as other Scott Cunningham books. So if you aren't Wiccan, take what you need and leave the rest. A better name for this might have been, "Natural healing spells." Maybe while writing this, Cunningham was focused on his own healing.
I've always loved Cunningham's work. This is a great book for those who are on a natural path, but not necessarily considering Wicca, at least not yet. In either case, this would be a good stepping stone to attune yourself with the elements and energies around you. I highly recommend his works, except his herbal works, only because I don't own them yet. It is written in a friendly, practical way that is easy to relate to, and the tools listed are easy to find. You don't need a heavy cauldron, just a stock pot and the intent.
As a skeptic who wants to believe, I find myself getting a lot of books on similar subjects. I find this to be one of my most favorites. I've dabbled with it here and there, getting mixed results, but as an agnostic rather than say...a pagan maybe that's to be expected. What is really nice about the book is its simplicity in text. It doesn't scream "light 4 black candles, 2 blue candles on a full moon on this month" rather it gives simple instructions to allow anyone at anytime to do any of the things inside of it. The simple relaxed approach allows for a TON of different "spells" to fit inside, often up to three on one page. I bought this book a while back and lost it, so I repurchased it again. I like this newer version less, the beautiful illustrations inside have been taken out completely. This is a shame since they enhanced the beauty of the book.
Arrived in excellent condition, and the book looks to be a good read. As with everything, read with a grain of salt and make yourown interpretations, however this is a good book to get you started in the right direction on the path into the craft.
This was a gift for a close friend. She loves Scoot Cunningham books and this one is among her favorites. I was happy to be able to get it for her. She's Wiccan and I've heard her recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject.
Earth Power is not something you can really read front to back as with Cunningham's other predecessors.The book separates the types of spells into the elements of nature such as earth magick or water magick.I felt that many of the spells were repetitive and cross overed many times in many of the chapters/sections.On a positive note, it does give you a good picture of the recurring themes and lessons in magick such as visualization.Not Cunningham's best works but still okay!
